Meus olhos se voltavam para ele, mesmo sem querer. As pálpebras se erguiam por conta própria, e as íris nele se fixavam. Eu olhava e sentia um prazer agudo em olhar - um prazer raro, embora doce-amargo. Precioso, mas com uma ponta de agonia. Um prazer como o que um homem morto de sede deve sentir ao perceber que o poço até o qual se arrastou tem a água envenenada, água que ele, mesmo sabendo disso, beberá de qualquer forma.

Fotografar é muito mais que apertar um botão, é viver, sentir e deixar registrado em forma de uma imagem algo inesquecível.

i’ve tried counting every freckle on your back. but i always get lost in the curve down your spine. if i could, i would erase every single one of them. as if each freckle was a bad memory i could take from your mind and swallow them chased with whiskey. i’d turn you back into something so pure. like a blank canvas untouched by my clumsy brush. or a blank vhs tape that isn’t filled with distant memories. you could be as pure as the blue sky over some sad midwest town. not these grey, factory clouds over new york city. i’d turn you back into the idea that there’s a universe within our bodies. rather than my smoke filled lungs and offbeat heart. but for now i’ll still try falling in love with the world through all the little things like sunsets and empty bars, heavy rain and pale sunsets, all the oxygen in my lungs and those tiny veins on the back of your eyelids.

When I was a little kid my mother told me not to stare into the sun. So once when I was six, I did. At first the brightness was overwhelming, but I had seen that before. I kept looking, forcing myself not to blink, and then the brightness began to dissolve. My pupils shrunk to pinholes and everything came into focus and for a moment I understood. The doctors didn't know if my eyes would ever heal. I was terrified, alone in that darkness. Slowly daylight crept in through the bandages, and I could see, but something else had changed inside of me. That day I had my first headache.

Às vezes devemos chorar: não porque a nossa vida é horrível ou esteja insuportável conviver. Seria idiotice pensar assim, sabendo que existem inúmeras pessoas em situações milhares de vezes pior do que a nossa e ainda assim, sorriem. Mas devemos chorar para nos livrar dos sentimentos ruins que armazenamos dentro de nós enquanto suportamos, calados ou não, certos conflitos diários – sejam esses com os outros ou com nós mesmos. Conflitos suportados por opressão, por respeito, por sensatez ou simplesmente, por amor. Devemos chorar para lavar o coração de todas as manchas, que aos poucos, corrompem a nossa alegria.

O maior dever que existe é não julgar. E como somos rápidos nesta tarefa...
Você não faz a menor ideia do que se passa dentro de um outro coração e dos desafios que a pessoa vem enfrentando. Preocupe-se em ser você o melhor que puder, e deixe que os outros sejam quem são. Você não é melhor do que ninguém para insinuar como os outros deveriam estar vivendo suas vidas.
