When someone believes that things and people should correspond to their idealizations, they can suffer great disappointments, because they believe that everything should work in their favor. And when this person gets hurt, they can feel like a ladybug that closes up when touched, to protect itself from external threats, pretending to be dead, as if nothing else could penetrate it. Then, they start to see the other person as a constant threat, even when there is no threatening sign, and they close themselves off, in their own shell, losing the opportunity to spread their wings and fly. (Then they stuff themselves with Rivotril, Lexotan, and the whole thing... or they go to the Universal Church...) Friendships, or any other type of relationship, become much more pleasurable when we accept them as they are, without creating expectations about them. People come and go from our lives in unpredictable ways and for varying periods of time, the important thing is to keep the door open.
